The Honda Civic you drive decides which sunshade you should buy more than anything else on the box. Honda changes the windshield with each new generation, and a 2021 and a 2022 Civic are two different cars. This guide shows how to tell the generations apart, what to check for your body style, and which Proadsy page to start from.
Step 1: Which generation is your Civic?
| U.S. model years | Generation | Body styles sold in the U.S. | Start here |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2006–2011 | 8th | Sedan, coupe | 2006–2011 Honda Civic Windshield Sunshade |
| 2012–2015 | 9th | Sedan, coupe | 2012–2015 Honda Civic Windshield Sunshade |
| 2016–2021 (coupe: 2016–2020) | 10th | Sedan, coupe, hatchback (from 2017) | 2016–2021 Honda Civic Windshield Sunshade |
| 2022 to present | 11th | Sedan, hatchback (no coupe) | See Step 3 for the three styles |
Honda launched the tenth-generation Civic sedan for the U.S. in late 2015 as a 2016 model; the coupe followed in early 2016 and the hatchback arrived for model year 2017. The all-new eleventh-generation Civic went on sale in the U.S. in June 2021 as a 2022 model, and it dropped the coupe. The 2025 model year added a refresh and a hybrid within the same eleventh generation. Performance versions share a generation with the regular car: in the 10th generation the Si came as a sedan and coupe and the Type R as a hatchback (from 2017); in the 11th, the Si is sedan only and the Type R is a hatchback.
Step 2: Match your body style
- Sedan: the most common Civic, sold in every generation above.
- Hatchback: sold from 2017 in the tenth generation and from 2022 in the eleventh. Check the listing for your exact years before you assume the windshield pattern matches the sedan.
- Coupe: sold through the 2020 model year only.
- Si, Type R and Hybrid: if you drive one, email us with your year and body style and we will confirm the fit before you order.
Step 3: 2022 and newer Civic: foldable, umbrella or Ice Crystal?
For the 11th-generation Civic we offer three separate products. They are different shades, not versions of one listing, so specs live on each product page.
| Foldable | Umbrella | Ice Crystal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it opens | Twist-fold frame springs open | Opens like an umbrella | Framed shade with an ice-crystal reflective face |
| Fabric | Premium silver-coated reflective fabric | Ice-crystal fabric | Ice-crystal fabric |
| Good pick if you | Want a flat-folding shade for daily parking | Want quick one-hand on and off | Prefer the darker reflective face with a framed fit |
Older Civics (2006–2021) currently come in the foldable style only.
Not sure, or you saw our older combined listing? The 2016–2022 Honda Civic Windshield Sunshade spans two generations. We have not confirmed that one pattern fits both, so if you drive a 2022 Civic, use the 2022–2026 pages above or email us first.
Using and storing it
- Open the shade against the glass, tuck the top edge behind the rearview mirror area, then flip both sun visors down to hold it.
- A windshield shade is for parked use only. Take it down and stow it before you drive.
- Fold it back the way it came out of the box and keep it in a seat-back pocket, door bin or under a seat so it never sits loose on the dash.
A quick checklist before you order
- Find your model year on the driver-door jamb sticker or in your registration.
- Confirm the body style: sedan, hatchback or coupe.
- Choose the product page whose year range includes your car.
- If your year is on the edge of a range (2011/2012, 2015/2016 or 2021/2022), email support@proadsy.com with your year, body style and trim and we will check before it ships.
FAQ
Will a 2021 Civic shade fit my 2022?
No. 2022 started the 11th generation with a new body, so pick a 2022–2026 shade.
Is the 2025 refresh a new generation?
No. The 2025 Civic is a refresh of the 11th generation, so start from the 2022–2026 pages. If you drive the 2025 or newer Hybrid, email us to confirm the fit.
Can I drive with the shade up?
No. Use it only while parked.
What if it doesn't fit?
