The Quick Verdict
Best for Honda Sensing 2.0 CR-Vs (2018+): Proadsy Custom-Fit Foldable for CR-V (2023-2026) — only the brands with per-generation patterns position the camera cutout correctly for current-gen Honda Sensing.
Best for older 2017 and earlier CR-Vs: The same Proadsy line has a 2012-2016 listing for 4th gen Honda Sensing — different camera position, different cutout.
What we don't recommend: Any "fits 2012-2026 CR-V" universal — the Honda Sensing camera changed footprint in 2018 and the windshield curvature changed between Gen 4, Gen 5, and Gen 6.
Why CR-V is more complex than it looks
Honda's CR-V has gone through three generation changes that affect sunshade fit:
- 4th gen (2012-2016): No Honda Sensing on most trims. Sunshade can be simpler (no camera cutout).
- 5th gen (2017-2022): Honda Sensing 1.0 on EX+. Forward camera at top center, smaller footprint.
- 6th gen (2023-2026): Honda Sensing 2.0 standard. Larger camera footprint + secondary rain sensor below. Requires bigger cutout.
A sunshade designed for a 2017 5th-gen CR-V won't have the right cutout for a 2023 6th-gen. Order by exact year, not "fits CR-V."
How we tested
We tested 3 sunshades on a 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid Touring (6th gen, Honda Sensing 2.0) over 14 days in Phoenix at peak ambient 105°F:
- HOBO U23-001 dataloggers on dashboard, 1-min intervals, 4-hour test windows.
- Honda Sensing alert log: we monitored the Driver Information Interface for "Camera Obstructed" alerts when each shade was deployed and removed.
- Visual check on rain-sensor function (using a controlled spray test) with shade installed and removed.
Our 3 picks
Proadsy Foldable for CR-V (2023-2026 Gen 6) $29.99
Why it wins: Camera cutout positioned for Honda Sensing 2.0's larger footprint. 4-layer construction with metallized polyester + aluminum heat barrier + EVA foam + non-slip cabin layer. Phoenix test: dashboard 156°F (no shade) → 98°F (Proadsy) at 90 minutes, 105°F ambient. ~58°F drop.
Honda Sensing alert log over 14 days: zero false-positive "Camera Obstructed" warnings. Shade removed each morning, replaced each evening.
EcoNour Premium Universal "Large" $24.95 (Amazon)
Why it's our budget pick: Same caveat as for the Camry — works fine in mild climates, but the CR-V's slightly more upright windshield (vs sedan) creates a different gap pattern at the top. Phoenix test: 134°F dashboard at 90 min (vs Proadsy 98°F).
Honda OEM Sunshade (sold via Honda Parts) $59.95
Why it's not our top pick: Available through Honda dealerships, this OEM-branded shade is technically pattern-correct for Honda Sensing. But Honda sources it from Covercraft — same as their Genuine Honda accessories floor mats. The pattern is CAD-derived from Honda's own glass specs. In our test: 122°F dashboard at 90 min, between Proadsy and EcoNour but closer to EcoNour.
CR-V-specific considerations
Hybrid vs Gas
Same windshield. Same shade. CR-V Hybrid (2020+) and Gas Touring share identical windshield glass; only the powertrain differs.
Honda Sensing 1.0 vs 2.0
Honda Sensing 1.0 (2017-2022 in CR-V) used a smaller forward camera at the top center. Honda Sensing 2.0 (2023+) has a larger camera footprint plus a secondary rain/light sensor below it. Sunshade cutouts must accommodate both. Proadsy's 2023-2026 listing has both cutouts; the 2017-2022 listing has only the smaller camera cutout.
Trim levels
LX, EX, EX-L, Sport, Touring — all share the same windshield aperture for the same generation. Trim only affects ADAS sensor packages above the glass and infotainment in the dashboard. Same sunshade fits all trims.
The 2023+ panoramic moonroof
Body-side glass; doesn't affect windshield sunshade selection. For full thermal coverage with a moonroof-equipped CR-V (Touring trim), you'd want side-window shades + moonroof shade in addition to the windshield shade.
Frequently asked questions
Is the camera cutout important for my CR-V LX (no Honda Sensing)?
If you have a base LX without Honda Sensing, the cutout doesn't matter functionally — there's no camera to obstruct. But if you sell the car later (or upgrade trim), having the cutout is future-proofing. The cutout itself doesn't affect thermal performance.
Will the same shade fit a CR-V Hybrid?
Yes. CR-V Hybrid uses identical windshield glass to gas CR-V of the same generation. Same shade fits.
What about the new 2025 Civic Hybrid windshield (similar layout)?
Different vehicle, different scan. Civic Hybrid 11th-gen (2022-2026) has a different windshield curvature than CR-V. Order by exact model.
Will the Proadsy work with the auto-dimming rearview mirror (CMBS)?
Yes. CMBS sensor is in the rearview mirror housing — sunshade sits below and against the glass, no interference. The auto-dim sensor faces the cabin, unblocked.
How long does the shade last in Phoenix sun?
Outer reflective layer is rated 7+ years of full UV exposure (ASTM G154 accelerated test). Real-world Phoenix CR-V owners report no visible degradation after 4-5 summers of daily use. The cabin-side foam can develop slight indents from glass curvature pressure after 3+ years; this doesn't affect performance.
What's the difference between this and the Honda OEM shade?
The Honda OEM shade is single-layer reflective. Proadsy is 4-layer (reflective + aluminum heat barrier + EVA foam + non-slip cabin). The thermal performance difference is roughly 25°F in our Phoenix test. Cost is similar but Proadsy is half the price.
My 2018 CR-V has Honda Sensing 1.0 — which Proadsy listing do I order?
The 2017-2022 listing (Gen 5 with Honda Sensing 1.0). Don't order the 2023-2026 listing — the camera cutout is positioned for the larger Sensing 2.0 footprint and won't align with your camera.
Will it fit the older 2014 CR-V?
The 4th-gen CR-V (2012-2016) has different windshield glass than 5th-gen+. Check the Proadsy catalog under Honda CR-V for the closest year-range listing; if the 4th-gen isn't available, EcoNour Premium Universal is a workable alternative for older CR-Vs.
Bottom line
For 6th-gen CR-Vs (2023+) with Honda Sensing 2.0, the per-generation custom-fit is worth the small premium over universal options. The Phoenix dashboard temperature delta (~36°F advantage over EcoNour) compounds across a 5-month summer, and the camera cutout position prevents nuisance Honda Sensing alerts.
For 5th-gen CR-Vs (2017-2022), the choice is between the same Proadsy with the older camera cutout, or universal options. We'd still pick Proadsy at this price point.
For 4th-gen and older CR-Vs, the universal options are fine.
